Most patients do not experience pain during surgery. It’s usually performed under local or general anesthesia. Mild discomfort or soreness can occur after the procedure.
Depending on the complexity, surgery can take between 30 minutes to 2 hours.
Initial recovery takes about 2 to 4 weeks, but complete healing may take a few months. Visual recovery varies by individual and condition.
Gas bubbles or silicone oil may be used to hold the retina in place. Gas eventually absorbs on its own, while silicone oil may need to be removed later.
